Senator Larry Craig: I am not Gay the Musical

Senator Larry Craig from Idaho, who had plead guilty to disorderly conduct for coming on to a male police officer in an airport bathroom, says the whole thing is a huge misunderstanding.  In fact, he went on national TV to proclaim (again and again) “I am not gay!”

I don’t know if he’s gay, but the musical he’s been cast in is fabulous:

Put Related Tags in Category Pages with Ultimate Tag Warrior

Blogs are an integral part of whole “web 2.0″ business, so it’s not too surprising that bloggers like adding tags to their posts. If you are using Wordpress, one of the best ways to add tagging functionality to your site is with a plugin called the Ultimate Tag Warrior.

This article won’t go into all the great features included with Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW). If you are new to the plugin, I suggest reading this great article by Lorelle. You can use it to show related posts, tags related to a particular post, and a bunch of other stuff. But there’s no easy way to show tags related to a particular tag or category.

If you take a look at one of our category page, for example the Environment category page, you notice a list of related tags. Here’s how I did it.

Jimmy Justice, Bane of Traffic Cops Everywhere

Jimmy Justice is a normal guy.  He is not with the news.  He is not getting paid to do what he does. What does he do?  He catches traffic cops violating the same laws that they enforce.  He says that he does it not for publicity or for notoriety but because he is tired of the hipocrasy that cops, especially traffic cops, get away with on a daily basis while charging others for doing the exact same thing.

I mean, who hasn’t seen a cop put on their lights to run through a red light or pull an illegal U-turn?  We don’t know if they are off to an emergency or if they are just breaking the law because that is a perk they get for being a cop.  But with these traffic cops, they are not actual cops according to Jimmy Justice on a recent interview with Cleveland’s morning shock jock Rover for Rover’s Morning Glory which is broadcast around the nation.  He says that these people are not exempt to the laws they are enforcing, unlike where a police officer may actually be  on the way to an actual crime or emergency.  These people are breaking the same laws that they are employed to enforce, breaking laws that would cost you $115.00 ticket.

And Jimmy Justice is out for blood.  He confronts New York City traffic cops whenever he gets the opportunity to do so and posts them on youtube.com.  But, to save you some effort, here are some of the best ones I found for easy viewing.  Do you agree with Jimmy?  Or do you think he is a dick?  Leave some feedback!

The Children are our Future…

…and we are screwed

This clip is courtesy of the Miss Teen USA pageant, showing young girls that as long as you are pretty you can be retarded and people will still care about you. Check out this article on how women should act.

She does make a good point though US Americans and such need to help South Africa and “The” Iraq with education for the future. Hooray US America!

Book Review: Perdido Street Station

I recently finished reading the book Perdidio Street Station by China Mieville and thought I would write up a review. It’s difficult to find a place to start about the book as it is complicated to explain. The novel takes place in the fictional city of New Corbuzon which is like a nightmarish amalgamation of London. The setting could be considered “steam punk” because magic and technology exist side by side. The technology consists of steam powered engines and clockwork run machines. The most impressive thing about the novel is convincing fictional world mieville creates with his words. It is very easy for the reader to visualize the ancient city with its many diverse cultures living together in a seething metropolis. Mieville is so detailed in his descriptions that it can be a nuisance at some point and the reader my skim over some of his more gregarious descriptions but overall they help to set the mood of the book.

The story of the novel is no less bizarre then the setting. Scientist Issac Dan van Grembulin is contracted by a Gerduda, who are a bird people, to help him to fly again. The Geruda’s wings have been amputated and Issac is one of the preeminent scientists on crisis energy which can be used to do just about anything its control wants it to. While researching the flying problem Issac studies many flying creatures, amongst one of which is an unusual caterpillar. He raises the caterpillar and when it finally emerges from its cocoon, it transforms into a creature that terrorizes New Corbuzon and Issac and the other characters spend the rest of the novel trying to stop it.

There are many bizarre characters in the novel. Issac’s girlfriend Lin is a Kephri who are a race of women with beetles for heads. There is also the Vodoynoi race who are a frog like people who can telepathically manipulate water. The re-made are the most strange beings humans or other races physically altered with manchinery or other weird appendages being added to their body for work or punishment purposes.

Over all Perdido Street Station is an excellent read with a very original and interesting storyline. Pick it up and you won’t be disappointed

Kid Nation Controversy

A new reality show on CBS this fall will feature forty children running their own ghost town. Does this Lord of the Flies rendition sound like an actual quality reality show? I think so. Here is the trailer for the new show this fall.

But, according to the parents of the children sent off (to win thousands of dollars these parents signed the rights to send their children on a six week survivor trip) to live in this western ghost town in the middle of the desert, things did not turn out so well. (more…)

Ben Stein is not a Rebel, and Creationism is not Science

Ben Stein in ExpelledDid you know that all over the country, nay the world, people are being persecuted for their belief and intelligence? Did you know that a small, powerful elite controls everything that children are exposed to in school for their own devious, Darwinistic ends? Did you know that only a complete outsider, a rebel with nothing but guts and a heart of steel, can expose the truth?

You might not know these things because none of them are true. But the makers of the movie “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” and star Ben Stein will try to shovel that particular pile of poop in theaters this February. Thanks to Pharyngula, an excellent blog by an actual scientist, for the tip.

From the movie’s home page:

Ben realizes that he has been “Expelled,” and that educators and scientists are being ridiculed, denied tenure and even fired – for the “crime” of merely believing that there might be evidence of “design” in nature, and that perhaps life is not just the result of accidental, random chance.

The movie Expelled, in a sense, is nothing new. It follows the established tactics of the creationist / intelligent design crowd, trying to fight the “materialistic” “darwinists” in the court of public opinion rather than in the labs or peer-reviewed journals. It’s yet another attack on science.

“And what’s so wrong with that,” you might ask, “this is a democracy after all.”

A Response from Delta to my Joys of Traveling

If you read my first article about flying with Delta you will know what I am talking about. If not, you might want to skim and scan it now. So, here is the response that I received from complaining to Delta. I gave them pretty much the same story as the one you read here. I am going to cut their response down and just give you the good parts, not the whole boring thing.

We regret you were inconvenienced because of a missed flight
connection. Delaying a flight for a confirmed passenger is a difficult situation
for the airlines. In the past our policy was to wait for passengers
whenever possible even at the expense of on-time performance. Now, our customers
tell us that being on time is a high priority, and we have changed our
practices to better meet these expectations.

First of all, apparently they did not ask anyone who missed their connecting flight (which just happened to be the last flight of the day), then were forced to stay in the concourse overnight, then had to try and do the same dance in the morning to another airport and possibly miss yet another plane just like the first time. I wonder who they asked. Probably someone who’s flight was not late, and oh god, the thought of being considerate to another human being would just be too much for them to bear in their entirely selfish and single minded lives.

The Joys of Travel, Delta Airlines

I probably would have gotten there faster on this.jpgSo, as many Americans are apt to do, I decided to fly with Delta on my trip to Myrtle Beach this year. They were a dollar more expensive than US Airways but their flight arrived 45 min earlier which I saw as a definite benefit worth a dollar. I purchased my tickets through www.orbitz.com about two months prior and thought that everything was fine and dandy. The day of my flight arrived, I called the airline to confirm the time of my departure and was on my way. Everything seemed to be going fine, my brother and I got through security with no problems even though I had a toy magic wand in my bag which I was worried would be considered a weapon or something and would be confiscated. It was not even glanced at a second time, I believe that security was too busy looking for dangerous mini bottles of shampoo and water.

The wand, before you get too excited over how incredibly dorky I am over carrying a toy magic wand in my luggage to Myrtle Beach let me explain to you why I was bringing it to my destination. This is the second time I have been to Myrtle Beach and the first time my brother and I discovered something called Magiquest. Okay, now you can make fun of me until you go to one. I think this is the only one, though, but I heard that they are opening up franchising options, which if I could get 1.5 million dollars I would totally be doing right now. I am telling you, this place is packed, and it just stays that way. I know it sounds kinda dorky, but it is totally a lot of fun, it’s like an interactive Harry Potterish video game. Very fun. If I could open one, I think I could be very rich very soon. Anyway…. (more…)

Is Firefox with Adblock Illegal, Unethical, or just plain Communism?

Before you read on, spend a minute to take a look at this site using Firefox.

I’ll wait till you get back…

Okay, so the basic theory is that Firefox (and Mozilla Foundation and its Commercial arm, the Mozilla Corporation) allows and endorses an extension named Adblock. Adblock allows users to block ads (or other content) while surfing the web. According to the creators of that site, this is wrong. Horribly, horribly wrong.

It is “no less than stealing,” and a by some astute legal analysis, Firefox is a “Contributory Infringer.” Yes, you heard me: Firefox (with Adblock) is a grave threat to capitalism itself. In fact, FIREFOX === COMMUNISM.

Firefox and adblock are communism

Blame it on Akon

Recently Akon has released a new music video for his song “Blame It on Me”, apologizing for some of his recent bad behavior. This goes back to my article a few weeks back where Akon threw a 15 year old boy from the stage. Here is the video of Akon saying he sorry for everything:

Top 5 Funniest Movies based on Video Games

We’ve seen a lot of really bad movies based on video games. From Wing Commander to Super Mario Brothers to, well, everything Uwe Boll has ever made. And they don’t seem to be getting any better, or really making much money at the box office, so I can only imagine that producers green light them to punish humanity for some horrible war crime.

Once again, a million random people on the Internet are churning out better video than companies with $100 million dollar budgets. Well, they’re turning out better movie trailers, anyway. Below are the five funniest video game movie trailers we’ve seen on the web.

Reason 46 Why Women Should Lose a Little Weight

In the Plain Dealer today an article was posted which stated that women who were obese before they became pregnant were much more likely to have physically deformed babies than women who were of a healthy weight. The study involved over 15,000 women from 8 different states. The article states that

Obese women faced double the risk of having babies with spina bifida than women of healthy weight. With spina bifida, the spinal column fails to close properly. That often leads to leg paralysis, learning difficulties and other serious problems.

And that

Very heavy women also were 60 percent more likely to have babies born with a rare defect in which abdominal organs protrude through the belly button; 40 percent more likely to have heart defects; 36 percent more likely to have shortened arms or legs; and at least 20 percent more likely to have any of several gastrointestinal deformities.
