Unbelievable Sportmanshit

To summarize Western Oregon College softball player Sara Tucholsky, who hit the ball out of the park against Central Washington but tore a knee ligament while rounding first base. It’s not a home run unless she makes it home, and she couldn’t walk, so two Central Washington players carried her around the bases.

Central Washington ended up losing the game and being eliminated from the playoffs. One of the girls who helped Tucholsky around the bases said, “”In the end, it is not about winning and losing so much. It was about this girl. She hit it over the fence and was in pain, and she deserved a home run.”

Is Aunt Flo a Fan of a Good Hard Workout?

Disclaimer: This article is about women and their “time of the month” so if you don’t want to read about it, please stop now. I mean, I would hope that you knew what this article was about from the title but I wanted to make sure.

So, while I was checking my email this morning Yahoo suggested some reading material as I waited for some pics to upload. This tasty tidbit of information supplied by my emailer of choice did catch my eye, seeing as how I am always interested in ways to skip out on my workout program even though I want to lose the weight. I don’t know, I guess that is just how I am. Anyway, according to Yahoo, this article was going to tell me everything I ever wanted to know about whether or not working out while on “that time of the month” for us women made us more prone to accidents. It said so right on the little link. I had so much hope for it. I really did.

Well, anyway, I did click on the link. And that brought me to the above article that is the pretty blue link right there in the previous paragraph I just wrote. And do you know what I found out?

Nothing. We go back and forth in a relatively long article about women’s health and sports and menstruating, but no conclusion is ever drawn. In fact, this article is so watered down and middle of the road that I didn’t even want to read the whole thing. But I did. Unfortunately. And I walked away from it knowing the same thing I knew before I read it, just robbed of 7 minutes of my life that I will never get back. Damn you, Yahoo!!!!

Here are some snippits for you, just to give you an idea why you don’t want to read Yahoo’s article, in case you felt the need.

Some, though not all, studies have found an increased risk of injury during certain parts of the menstrual cycle.

Hmm…some, though not all, eh? Wow, that is some pretty potent journalism. (more…)

Extreme Japanese Sports, Nagano Makoto

I am not a very sports oriented person, as several people will tell you. In fact, I learn most all of my American sports knowledge from my mother-in-law. But, I do like extreme sports, like skate boarding, snow boarding, and the Ultimate Viking Challenge. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this challenge, this is possibly the most difficult obstacle course ever made. It was originally a Japanese show but now airs in the US on ESPN and in Europe. I don’t often get the chance to watch the show, but when I do it’s definitely worth it. Anyway, I am not writing about that right now, what I wanted to talk about today, actually to show you a video of today, is Nagano Makoto, the only person so far to get to the final stage of Viking, The Ultimate Challenge. He lost by running out of time in the last five feet of the course. Below is a clip (albeit of very poor quality) of Viking so you get an idea of what is going on there.

UFC Surprise Upset

Last Night was UFC 70 Live from Manchester, England. The Main Event featured favorite Mirko Cro Cop vs. Gabriel Gonzaga. The fight was supposed to be a stepping stone for Cro Cop to face current heavyweight champ Randy Coutre at an upcoming PPV. Cro Cop was the odds on favorite and was supposed to win the match easily. Unfortunately nobody told Brazilian Gabriel Gonzaga who knocked him out in the first round.
