Reason 46 Why Women Should Lose a Little Weight

Tags: , , , , , ,

In the Plain Dealer today an article was posted which stated that women who were obese before they became pregnant were much more likely to have physically deformed babies than women who were of a healthy weight. The study involved over 15,000 women from 8 different states. The article states that

Obese women faced double the risk of having babies with spina bifida than women of healthy weight. With spina bifida, the spinal column fails to close properly. That often leads to leg paralysis, learning difficulties and other serious problems.

And that

Very heavy women also were 60 percent more likely to have babies born with a rare defect in which abdominal organs protrude through the belly button; 40 percent more likely to have heart defects; 36 percent more likely to have shortened arms or legs; and at least 20 percent more likely to have any of several gastrointestinal deformities.

These results are not meant to panic any overweight women who are about to have children. But it should make them think a little. Because of their life choices, they are putting their own children at risk for deformities and defects. Mind you, in the article they do mention that the researchers are not sure what causes the defects in the babies born from obese women and that obese women should not worry about these defects because they only happen in about 4 percent of the babies born to morbidly overweight women. I think that women should worry, though. I mean, if you know that a life choice that you make (to be incredibly overweight) can alter the permanent health of your children in the future, shouldn’t you make the right choice and drop some pounds for the sake of your children?

Bottom line is that losing a little weight is good for you no matter who you are. Being overweight is bad. It is bad for your health. And now it is bad for your children. If you are obese, you need to lose a little weight. Diet drugs are not the way to do it. The only way to do it is to modify your diet and exercise. Read Ryan’s articles on how he lost 60 pounds in four months the healthy way. It’s not easy. I am telling you this now. But is it worth it? For you? For the health of your child? Think about this, if you are over weight you are much more likely to die younger from heart troubles, more likely to get diabetes, have bad knees, hips and backs, shortness of breath, do I need to go on? So what is stopping you from losing weight?

As a side note, You are also more likely to be made fun of for being fat. And you can’t even run away from those making fun of you because you can’t run.
